An alumnus from Puyallup Washington Butler was interested in the arts while growing up. She has performed on stage as well as in the school. She moved from Los Angeles in order to pursue a degree in the University of Southern California and later performed as Belle as the Princess for two and a half seasons at Disneyland. She dropped out of college focused on finding a talent agent and began casting for roles in TV and film. Butler guest starred in the TV series CSI: Miami. In 2008, she was a part in the web-series Luke 11:17. It was directed by Don Stark. Butler is also a frequent guest in the show I Love Vampires. Butler was cast as the main character in I Spit on Your Grave (a remake) a 2010 revenge and rape thriller. Though initially, she wasn't a fan of the film's violence and nudity she eventually came to be convinced of the film's feminist tone as well as its strong characters. Butler played Jennifer Hills who, following being viciously assaulted inside a cabin in the forest and sexually assaulted by a gang, vows to take revenge on those responsible. Steven R. Monroe helmed the film, which came out on October 8th 10th, 2010. Butler began filming the psychological thriller The Stranger Within alongside Estella Warren and William Baldwin in Mallorca Spain during November of 2011. She was part of the cast for Los Angeles of Treachery, which starred Michael Biehn. Filming began in Los Angeles on June 12 the 12th of June, 2012. Butler was a part of the 2013 thriller The Demented with Michael Welch and Kayla Ewell.

Ferland has been nominated more than 12 times throughout her professional career, and was even nominated for an Emmy. Ferland won the Young Artist Award in Mermaid as well as a CAMIE Award in Lead Performance for the TV Movie Series or Special in Pictures of Hollis Woods.
